Artist's Statement

My name is Jiffy Lesica and I'm a 19-year-old photographer. Back in 2017, my journey using this medium began when I took photos of the Women's March on Washington for an English project. It made me realize the potency of documenting and sharing moments of historical significance.

Since that point, my area of interest has grown to using my photographs to tell 'global stories'. I seek moments out not solely because of their aesthetic, but the unique personal and historical narratives that lie within them. My focus is on scenes of civic engagement, cultural identity, and environmental sustainability/climate change.

In photographing with this intention, I hope to frame a connection between people and their environment, chronicling and sharing scenes of tomorrow’s history. Though I don't have formal training, I hope that my photos can be used to generate discourse and introspection that move people forward from tumult to common ground.
